Ikaria is a beautiful island in the Aegean. The place basically is synonymous to paradise and vitality. People there are known for living their life without being affected by stress and are possibly the calmest and simultaneously vivacious people on the planet. The most fascinating thing about those people is why they live how they live? The answer is longevity or in simple english the act of living longer.
According to scientists studying the island, the reason they live longer is the diet they follow. The mediterranean diet seems to be the reason. The mediterranean diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole-wheat cereal and bread and of course extra virgin olive oil. This diet in combination with the lack of stress is what creates this chance for an extra four to five years of life. The average age that humans live up to is 75 so perhaps we alone, with no machines can be able to live up to our 80s.
Scientists also say that taking meat out of your diet for certain days of the week could help both with body detox but also the money issue. Meals with meat are show to cost around 40 euros per week while meals following the mediterranean diet are significantly cheaper costing 30 euros per week.
The most important thing however, is that these people have found the secret of life: that we, ourselves and our health are the most significant thing and that looking after ourselves and our diets is something we owe to do.
